7.25.02: EdTech 2002 / SALT Conference in Arlington, VA.

Craig Tunks, Director, Information Systems, West New York Board of Education, presents "Inventory and Maintenance Tracking in a Technical World" and highlights SERTS as their solution.

Software Tracking

The software tracking module allows school districts to track all software being used on computers in the district. There are three primary functions:

1. Software committee members can enter the software titles along with a version, publisher and vendor. The software can be marked as approved or rejected, networkable and Windows 2000 compliant. Each software title can be associated with specific grade levels, specific schools and locations within schools, and specific departments and subjects. The software committee has complete control over the list of publishers, vendors, grades, schools, departments and subjects.

2. Technicians and Administrators can track specific Software Licenses for all software. Users can select a software title from the list entered by the software committee and add a unique district tracking number, serial number, detailed licensing information, a specific location for the software and dates for purchase and installation.

3. Staff can perform searches for software titles by selecting a partial software title and/or selecting specific grades, schools and/or subjects for which they would like to find software. A list of matching titles will be displayed and the user can click on any title to see details about that title. For example, a teacher could search for all software titles for 2nd and 3rd grade math or 6th, 7th and 8th grade English in a specific school.
