Student Web Site Builder
Encourage students to learn Internet Technology
What is it?
The Web Site Builder is a web application that allows elementary school
students to build their own web sites without requiring any web design
experience. Teachers create accounts for students in their classes. Each
student can login to the web site and create their site by selecting options
and filling in forms on web pages. A site can be created in less than 15
minutes.
How it works:
Building a web site is a simple three step process:
Step 1 - Select a theme: Students select one of 24 pre-designed themes that
define the colors, graphics and navigation for their site.
Step 2 - Edit web site pages: Students can create a home page and two
additional pages for their site. Each page can have a title, multiple
paragraphs of text and pictures. Pictures can be selected from a pre-loaded
library or students can upload their own pictures.
Step 3 - Publish the site: After the first two steps are completed, students
can publish their web site.
Security fully controlled by teachers:
The web builder program is designed to run on a district’s Intranet so
that access is restricted to staff and students within the schools in the
district. In
addition, only teachers can create student logins and all student sites must
be approved and activated by their teacher before other students can view
their site.
Requirements:
- Windows 2000 Server with school network
- Internet Information Services 5 (IIS)
- Microsoft SQL 7 or 2000
- ASP Upload component
- Remote dial-up access for setup and installation
